CNI Pays Courtesy Call on Newly Appointed Chief Secretary Karki
The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal, Mr. Govinda Bahadur Karki, and extended heartfelt congratulations on his appointment, along with best wishes for a successful and impactful tenure.
CNI President Birendra Raj Pandey congratulated the Chief Secretary and highlighted CNI's role as one of Nepal's leading private sector organizations, emphasizing its continued efforts to promote industrial development, investment, and economic growth through constructive public-private partnership.
The delegation highlighted CNI's flagship "Make in Nepal – Swadeshi" Campaign, emphasizing the need to encourage the use of domestically produced goods in appropriate sectors to strengthen local industries and reduce import dependency. CNI also shared updates on the campaign's digital portal, which aims to promote Nepali products and connect consumers with domestic manufacturers.
President Pandey informed about CNI Budget Watch, a private sector-led initiative introduced by CNI to support the effective implementation of the national budget by monitoring progress, identifying implementation bottlenecks, and providing constructive policy recommendations. CNI also shared its ongoing research initiative on developing a roadmap to transform Nepal into a USD 100 billion economy, outlining the structural reforms and investment priorities required to achieve this long-term national aspiration.
During the discussion, CNI expressed its expectation that the government would ensure policy stability and continuity through a stable administrative system, thereby creating a more predictable and investment-friendly business environment. The Confederation also emphasized that businesses should be provided an opportunity to be heard before any punitive action is taken, advocating for a fair, transparent, and facilitative regulatory framework.
The delegation further raised several priority issues requiring policy attention, including effective measures to curb unauthorized trade and smuggling, the introduction of a Payment Recovery Act (Payment Security Act) to ensure timely settlement of business dues, legal provisions for Anticipatory Bail, and the effective implementation of the national budget to accelerate economic activities and strengthen private sector confidence.
The meeting was also attended by CNI Office Bearer Member Prachi Agrawal, CNI Director General Dr. Ghanshyam Ojha, and CNI Director Himal Poudel.
